The Upcoming iPhone 17 Air: Lightweight and Powerful?
Monday, May 19, 2025
The iPhone 17 Air is set to be the first Apple smartphone to use advanced battery technology. Apple supplier TDK is reportedly preparing to ship its new generation of silicon-anode batteries by the end of June. This could mean better battery life, but reports are mixed. One report suggests the iPhone 17 Air might have worse battery life than previous models, with only 60-70% of users able to use it all day without recharging. To tackle this, Apple might release a battery case as an optional accessory.
However, not all reports are pessimistic. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has a more positive outlook, stating that battery life will be on par with current iPhones due to hardware and software improvements. The iPhone 17 Air is also rumored to be just 5. 5mm thin. It might include Apple's power-efficient C1 modem and lack an Ultra Wide camera, potentially freeing up space for a larger battery. The device is expected to replace the "Plus" model in Apple's iPhone 17 lineup, launching around mid-September, following Apple's typical fall release schedule. The tech world will be watching to see if this new model lives up to the hype.
