The recent wildfires in Los Angeles have sparked a lot of discussions about what went wrong. Instead of blaming individuals, let's look at the bigger picture. The city's mayor, Karen Bass, was more focused on international trips and virtual press conferences when the fires started. She even made a blooper by directing people to "URL" for help, which wasn't helpful at all. The city's fire department budget was cut by $17. 6 million to fund homeless services. While helping the homeless is important, it shouldn't be at the expense of public safety. The mayor also appointed a bunch of people to the water board who weren't very good at their jobs. They missed deadlines and the city ended up with no water when it needed it most.

California's governor, Gavin Newsom, was also focused on climate change and banning gas cars, but he cut the wildfire prevention budget by $150 million. He also protected a tiny fish called the delta smelt, which didn't help LA when its reservoirs ran dry. Politicians might blame a string of unfortunate events, but voters aren't buying it anymore.
