Thousands March in D. C. Before Trump's Inauguration
Washington, USASunday, January 19, 2025
Demonstrators gathered in different parts of Washington before marching to the Lincoln Memorial. They held signs with slogans like "Save America, " "Against abortions? Then don’t have one, " and "Hate won’t win. " There were moments of tension when a Trump supporter joined the march, but police intervened peacefully.
Rick Glatz from New Hampshire marched for his four granddaughters, saying, "I’m a grandpa. And that’s why I’m marching. " Anna Bergman, a high school teacher from Minnesota, wore her original pink pussy hat from the 2017 Women’s March. She wanted to be surrounded by like-minded people on this day.
The march, now called the People’s March, aimed to broaden support and included themes like feminism, racial justice, and anti-militarization. Organizers hoped to convert marchers into long-term activists in their communities.
