Auburn's Tigers made history at the Maui Invitational, becoming the first SEC team in 31 years to take home the championship. Coach Bruce Pearl praised his team's dominance, saying, "Our kids were excited to play every game. We controlled that match from start to finish. "
The key player was Johni Broome, who earned the Tournament MVP title with a remarkable performance. He scored 21 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and dished out six assists, among other impressive stats. Fellow teammate Dylan Cardwell set a career high with 18 points, while Chad Baker-Mazara and Denver Jones also played crucial roles.
Auburn's game plan was clear from the beginning. They opened with a 9-0 run and maintained a lead throughout the game, eventually winning 90-76. The Tigers out-rebounded Memphis and capitalized on their turnovers, showcasing their strong performance on both ends of the court.
This victory adds Auburn to the list of SEC teams that have won the Maui Invitational, joining Kentucky from 1993 and Vanderbilt from 1986. With a 7-0 season record, the Tigers now look forward to their next challenge against No. 11 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium next Wednesday.
