TikTok in Hot Water: States Allege App Harms Kids' Health
USATuesday, October 8, 2024
And that’s not all! There are also concerns about how TikTok handles kids’ private information. Lots of states and groups that help kids are raising these issues.
In these lawsuits, the attorneys general point out that TikTok’s challenges can be really harmful. Some kids have even died doing dangerous stunts to get more likes and followers. One sad example is a 15-year-old boy who died doing something called “subway surfing,” where kids ride on top of moving trains. His mom found TikTok videos about it after he passed away.
TikTok hasn’t said anything about these lawsuits yet. The attorneys general who are suing come from all over the U.S., including California, Illinois, and New York. Each one filed a lawsuit in their own state.
