Imagine being Timothée Chalamet, stepping into the shoes of the legendary Bob Dylan in James Mangold's upcoming biopic, A Complete Unknown. The trailer gives us a sneak peek into the pressure and expectations that come with fame, especially in the 1960s music scene. Chalamet, as Dylan, expresses his frustration with fans who want him to stick to singing "Blowin' in the Wind" forever, highlighting the tension between the artist and his audience.
Dylan's journey begins as a 19-year-old from Minnesota, arriving in New York's West Village with a guitar and a revolutionary talent. His goal? To change American music. However, as his success grows, so does his restlessness with being pigeonholed. He realizes that to keep the audience's attention, he needs to be unpredictable, even a bit of a "freak." This culminates in a controversial electric guitar performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, which is shown in the trailer.
The film also delves into Dylan's complex relationship with Joan Baez, played by Monica Barbaro. They start as a singing duo and rise to become the kings and queens of folk music, performing in concert halls and topping the charts.
Chalamet brings his own singing skills to the role, having previously shown his musical prowess in Wonka. A Complete Unknown, set to release on December 25, features an impressive cast including Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, and Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash.
The biopic is directed by Mangold and written by him and Jay Cocks. It promises to give viewers a fresh perspective on Dylan's life and the challenges he faced in the music industry.
