Damage included a 10,000-square-foot building where patrol cars are parked, with no deputies inside at the time. The post office nearby also sustained damage. Sheriff William Snyder confirmed a tornado at mile marker 110 on Interstate 95, with debris possibly from the Cobblestone development in Palm City.
Martin County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Christine Weiss commented, "I've never seen anything like this before." She noted severe damage on Southeast Burning Tree Circle and Mariner Sands Country Club, with multiple injuries reported. A countywide curfew was subsequently imposed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to ensure safety.
Residents were advised to stay indoors during the tornado outbreak. The situation remains dynamic, with emergency services on high alert.
