Trading Stars: Rantanen and Hall in Major Move
North Carolina, USASaturday, January 25, 2025
Despite his departure, the Avalanche are getting another star in Necas. Necas has been a key player for the Hurricanes, contributing with 16 goals and 55 points this season alone. He's been a hundred-point contributor for the last two seasons, so it's clear why the Avalanche are excited to have him on board.
Taylor Hall, the former No. 1 pick from 2010 and Hart Trophy winner, is also joining the Hurricanes. This will be Hall's seventh team, and while his production has dipped since his peak, his potential is undeniable. The Hurricanes, sitting in the No. 2 spot in the Metropolitan Division, hope he'll help them make a strong playoff push.
Contract wise, Rantanen and Hall will become unrestricted free agents after this season, while Necas still has one more year on his deal before becoming a free agent too. This deal is a significant one, bringing big changes for all three teams involved.
