A family from Germany was on a dream holiday in Istanbul, enjoying the sights and sounds of the city. They decided to try some local street food, a common activity among tourists. But this time, it ended in tragedy.

The Incident

The family of four ate at a popular spot in Ortakoy, a waterside neighborhood under a famous bridge. They tried several dishes, including:

  • Mussels with rice
  • Stuffed baked potatoes
  • Grilled lamb entrails

Soon after, they felt very sick. The two young children, aged 6 and 3, did not survive. Their mother also passed away. The father is now fighting for his life.

Investigation and Aftermath

Authorities have taken samples from the restaurant and have taken four people into custody. An investigation is ongoing to find out what went wrong.

A Reminder of Risks

This is not the first time something like this has happened. About five months ago, a girl in France died from food poisoning. In the U.S., foodborne illness kills over 900 people every year, with millions more getting sick. Many cases go unreported.

It's important to be careful when eating out, especially in places where food safety may not be as strict. This tragedy serves as a reminder: always be cautious with street food.
