Tragic End: The Capture and Fate of Jamshid Sharmahd

In a shocking turn of events, Iran executed Jamshid Sharmahd, a 69-year-old man who held both German and Iranian citizenship. This happened after he had been imprisoned for years. Sharmahd, a political scientist and US resident, was apprehended in 2020 during a trip to the United Arab Emirates, according to his family. Iran accused him of being involved in a mosque bombing in Shiraz back in 2008, which sadly took the lives of 14 people and left 300 others injured.

They also alleged that he headed a group plotting to topple their government. Sharmahd's family vehemently denied these accusations, claiming his innocence. Germany strongly condemned the execution and warned of serious repercussions for Iran. Human rights organizations labeled the incident as an "extrajudicial killing of a hostage.
