Training Nurses in Cameroon for Better Cancer Care

Did you know that cancer is one of the world’s leading causes of death? In 2020 alone, it took nearly 10 million lives globally, and this number is expected to rise by over 60% by 2040, especially in low- and middle-income countries. One major issue is the lack of proper medical care for cancer patients, specifically palliative and psychosocial support. In Cameroon, nurses play a crucial role in caring for cancer patients. A recent study aims to improve their skills through special training focused on psychosocial and palliative care. This isn’t just about treating symptoms, but also about providing emotional support and improving the quality of life for patients.

The study takes a unique approach. Instead of just teaching, it involves a hands-on, real-world application of these new skills. This way, nurses can see the impact of their learning firsthand and make adjustments as needed. The aim is to see how this training changes the way nurses care for cancer patients.
