Troops Lost in Gaza Amidst Shaky Peace
Middle EastWednesday, June 25, 2025
The war has taken a heavy toll. In Gaza, Palestinians are frustrated that their conflict has dragged on for nearly two years, while the Israel-Iran war ended in just 12 days. Meanwhile, Israel claims to have killed a key figure in Lebanon who was allegedly funding Hezbollah.
The head of the U. N. nuclear agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, has suggested that Iran could rebuild its damaged nuclear infrastructure. He also expressed hope for resuming inspections in Iran soon.
China, a close ally of Iran, has called for a lasting ceasefire to promote stability in the Middle East. However, Iran’s Parliament is moving to limit cooperation with the IAEA, making oversight of its nuclear program more difficult.
In a separate incident, Israeli forces killed a 66-year-old Palestinian woman in east Jerusalem. Hamas has claimed responsibility for an attack on Israeli soldiers in Gaza, though it’s unclear if this is linked to the deaths of the seven soldiers.
Iran has executed three more prisoners for allegedly spying for Israel, raising concerns about human rights abuses. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes in Iran have reportedly killed at least 1, 054 people, according to a human rights group.
