Trump's Crypto Vision: Make the US the 'Crypto Capital'

Former U.S. President Donald Trump made a surprising announcement at a bitcoin conference in Nashville. He plans to make the U.S. a global leader in cryptocurrency if he's re-elected. Trump wants the country to be the "crypto capital of the planet" and create a "bitcoin strategic reserve." He also promised to replace the current Securities and Exchange Commission chair, Gary Gensler, and form a crypto advisory council. Trump's support for cryptocurrency has shifted over time. He once criticized it but now accepts donations in digital currency.

Trump compared his support for cryptocurrency to the current administration's efforts to regulate it. He wants the U.S. to "mine, mint, and make" cryptocurrency. He even mentioned commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, the creator of the Silk Road website, who is serving a life sentence. Some attendees showed support for Ulbricht by wearing "Free Ross Day One" hats. Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn praised Trump's announcement. Interestingly, another presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., also proposed a bitcoin strategic reserve the day before.
