Trump's Hush Money Case: Sentencing Paused, Immunity Decision Pending
New York, USAFriday, November 22, 2024
The case's fate has flipped a year after Trump faced multiple indictments. His two federal cases are wrapping up, and the Georgia and New York cases are likely to end without a sentence. The district attorney's office acknowledged Trump might not be sentenced until after his upcoming presidential term. Even so, the conviction could stand for four years, according to a source.
Trump's lawyers argue his conviction should be tossed due to presidential immunity and his return to the White House. He was convicted in May for falsifying business records related to a $130, 000 hush money payment to Stormy Daniels. The sentencing, previously scheduled for July, was delayed twice due to the Supreme Court’s immunity decision. Trump's legal tactics, including trying to move the case to federal court, kept pushing back the sentencing date.
