But not everyone found Trump's playful jabs amusing. CNN anchor Jim Sciutto pointed out that Canada has been a loyal ally to the U. S. They fought alongside each other in World War II, the Korean War, and even in Afghanistan after 9/11. Canadian troops did some of the toughest jobs and suffered heavy losses. Sciutto questioned why Trump would antagonize such a close neighbor and long-standing treaty partner.
It's not the first time Trump has used nicknames in a playful, yet potentially offensive, way. India Today reported that Trump had previously referred to Trudeau as "governor" after suggesting Canada could become the 51st U. S. state if it couldn't handle U. S. tariffs.
