TSMC's New 2nm Tech: Bigger, Faster, Greener
TaiwanTuesday, December 17, 2024
TSMC's 2nm tech is like a super-efficient machine. It can cram more logic cells into smaller spaces, thanks to something called N2 NanoFlex. This means devices can do more with less, which is always a plus. But the real star here is the nanosheet transistors. They’re like tiny, stacked silicon ribbons wrapped in gates, giving manufacturers more control over current flow. This is why big names like Apple and NVIDIA are eager to jump on the 2nm bandwagon.
Don’t expect the switch to be instant, though. With wafer prices shooting up and initial yields being lower, the rollout will be gradual. But the potential payoff is massive. By the time 2025 rolls around, we might see some incredible advancements in tech, all thanks to TSMC's new 2nm process.
