Tupperware, a well-known name in many homes, is leaving Williamsburg County. The facility, which has been around since the late 1970s, is shutting down for good. This isn't because of their recent bankruptcy filing; instead, it’s part of a new plan to improve customer service and operations. But what does this mean for Williamsburg County? Around 150 people will lose their jobs by January. Tupperware was one of the county's top employers, with manufacturing being the biggest industry here. The company is moving its operations to Lerma, Mexico, where they already make many products. Council member Terrance Wilson says this facility has supported many families and local schools over the years. He even worked there himself after high school. Employees are getting early retirement options, severance packages, and help finding new jobs. Wilson suggests people keep improving their skills, maybe at the local technical college. Tupperware will now partner with a third-party logistics company in the Midwest for distribution.
