Scientists have developed a smart reactor that turns natural gas into clean hydrogen fuel and strong, lightweight carbon nanotubes.
The Big Deal
- No CO2 Emissions: This process skips the step that usually pumps out CO2.
- Methane Pyrolysis: Breaks down methane into hydrogen and solid carbon.
- Smart Loop: Recycles gas until it's almost all used up.
Efficiency
- 8.7 times better at turning carbon into useful stuff.
- 446 times better at using every bit of gas compared to old-school reactors.
- 75% Efficiency: For every 4 kilograms of methane, you'd get 3 kilograms of nanotubes and 1 kilogram of hydrogen.
Potential Impact
- Stronger, more sustainable materials for buildings.
- Clean fuel for our energy needs.
Challenges Ahead
- Scaling Up: The researchers need to make it work on a big scale before it can really make a difference.
