Two Long‑Term Actors Exit “Virgin River” Before Season 8

Oregon, USAThursday, March 12, 2026

The beloved series is set to lose two core characters after its seventh season.

  • Marco Grazzini – joined in season three, regular for four years, will not return next year.
  • Lauren Hammersley – played Charmaine for all seven seasons, will step away from the show.

The producer said both could come back later, but for now their roles are ending.

These departures match earlier exits:

  • Grayson Gurnsey left after season four.
  • Mark Ghanimé departed following season six.

The show has kept most of its main players, adding only one new regular since the current showrunner took over. No new series‑regular promotions are planned for season eight, even though long‑time actors like Teryl Rothery and John Allen Nelson will remain on the screen.

“Keeping the series fresh is more about giving existing characters enough story to grow than about swapping actors. We’ll make decisions as characters finish their arcs and bring in new people when it fits,” the creator emphasized.

Most of the remaining regulars, including Ben Hollingsworth’s Brady and others from season seven, are expected to return. The show will also keep several recurring roles, such as Cody Kearsley’s Clay and Austin Nichols’ cameo as a pediatric surgeon. However, some new faces from season seven will not continue next year.

The plot device of Charmaine—who has driven many cliffhangers over five seasons—is likely ending for now. The producer noted that if the right opportunity arises in the future, Charmaine could reappear for a fresh storyline rather than more twists.
