Two Men Arrested for Exporting Tech to Iran in Deadly Drone Attack
Natick, USATuesday, December 17, 2024
The FBI traced the drone's navigation system back to an Iranian company operated by one of the defendants. This company relied on technology funneled from the U. S. by the alleged co-conspirator. The attack happened in January at a U. S. outpost in northeastern Jordan, killing three soldiers from Georgia. The drone might have been mistaken for a U. S. drone and crashed into living quarters, causing widespread destruction.
The defendants face serious charges, including export control violations. One of them is also accused of conspiring to provide material support to Iran. The U. S. Attorney for Massachusetts emphasized that this case highlights the real dangers of American technology falling into the wrong hands. Both men are being held pending further legal proceedings.
