U. S. Politicians Push Pentagon to Blacklist More Chinese Tech Companies
A group of nine U.S. politicians recently sent a letter to the Pentagon, urging the defense department to add more Chinese tech companies to a special list. This list includes companies that the U.S. believes support China's military.
Companies Under Scrutiny
The politicians want to add companies like:
- DeepSeek: An AI company
- Xiaomi: A smartphone manufacturer
- BOE Technology Group: A producer of electronic displays
The list already includes major names such as Tencent and CATL.
Impact of Being on the List
Being on this list does not mean the companies are officially punished. However, it advises U.S. government agencies to be cautious about engaging with them. Some companies on the list have even sued the U.S. in response.
Additional Companies Targeted
The politicians also want to include:
- WuXi AppTec
- GenScript Group
- RoboSense
They believe these companies should be excluded from the U.S. supply chain by 2030.
Context and Background
The letter was sent after President Trump signed a significant military spending bill. Trump has also ordered the Defense Department to change its name to the Department of War, a change that requires congressional approval.
In June, a U.S. official stated that DeepSeek assists China's military and evades U.S. export regulations. BOE, which supplies parts to Apple, is also on the list of companies the U.S. aims to distance itself from.
Politicians Involved
The letter was signed by Republican politicians, including leaders of key congressional committees.
