UK Trade Deal Stands Strong Despite New US Tariffs

The United Kingdom is confident that its trade agreement with the United States will remain intact even after President Donald Trump announced a new 10% import tariff. British trade minister Peter Kyle expressed this confidence during a recent parliamentary hearing. He said that after talking with U. S. officials, the core terms of last year’s deal still hold. Last year Britain and the U. S. signed an Economic Prosperity Deal that set a 10% tariff on many goods and gave special conditions for cars, planes and farm products. Some parts of that agreement are still being finalized, but the main framework is in place.

Kyle noted that a complete trade deal would require both sides to move at the same speed. He also warned that chasing a full agreement too quickly could block smaller, more focused deals that might be easier to finish. He added that tariffs are bad for both American and British businesses, and they hurt the stability needed for trading. Instead of relying on tariffs, Britain is keeping conversations open with U. S. counterparts and looking for other ways to advance trade quickly. The UK remains determined to keep its relationship with the U. S. strong, even as new tariff policies create uncertainty.
