Ukraine Conflict: Russian Tank Losses Reach Major Milestones

In a recent announcement from Kyiv, Russia has lost a significant number of military vehicles since the start of its conflict with Ukraine in February 2022. Ukraine claims that Russia has lost over 9, 000 tanks and more than 18, 000 armored vehicles. This massive loss includes 17 tanks and 33 armored personnel carriers in just the last 24 hours. Kyiv's report highlights that Russia's war efforts have taken a heavy toll on both its personnel and military hardware. Despite capturing key cities like Bakhmut and Avdiivka, Russia's advance has come at a high cost. Early in the war, experts noted issues with Russia's tank operations, including poor planning, low morale, and inexperienced crews.

To compensate for these losses, Russia has been drawing tanks from storage and ramping up production. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia's tank production has increased significantly since the start of the conflict. The British government estimates that Russia can produce around 100 main battle tanks per month. Unlike Russia, Ukraine has limited ability to produce replacement tanks and relies on aid from Western allies. In response to Russia's claims about Ukrainian losses, Kyiv has reported changes in Russian tactics, with more infantry assaults and the use of improvised vehicles. As winter approaches, the conflict shows no signs of slowing down. Both Kyiv and Moscow are bracing for another tough winter season with no end in sight. Experts note that previous winters have not curtailed Russia's operations against Ukraine.
