Ukraine's Casualty Numbers: The First Official Report
Monday, December 9, 2024
The Ukrainian figures stand in contrast to the 600, 000 dead and wounded reported on the Russian side. However, Zelenskyy believes that Russia's losses are even greater. He mentioned that updated data shows around 750, 000 total casualties, including 198, 000 dead and more than 550, 000 wounded. Since September, Russia has been losing five to six soldiers for every Ukrainian soldier lost.
President Zelenskyy also emphasized the need for a lasting peace with guarantees that prevent future Russian aggression. He pointed out that a simple ceasefire without these guarantees could lead to a renewed conflict. To avoid more Ukrainian casualties, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of ensuring a reliable peace and not ignoring the occupation.
