A Global Collaboration
In 2010, scientists from five countries united under the IGEMS consortium. Their mission: to explore how genes and the environment shape our aging process.
The Team
- 21 twin studies from Australia, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and the United States.
- Over 145,000 participants, aged 18 to 108.
The Goal
To uncover how genes and environmental factors influence:
- Mind
- Body
- Emotions as we age.
Three Phases of Discovery
Phase 1 & 2: Building the Foundation
- Data Harmonization: Combining data from different studies.
- National Registries & Military Records: Linking data for deeper insights.
- Traditional & Genetic Research: Merging twin studies with modern genetics.
Phase 3: Maximizing the Data
- Advanced Tools & Systems: To analyze the vast amount of data.
- Understanding Aging: Unlocking the secrets of a healthier life.
Why It Matters
This project helps us:
- Understand aging better.
- See how genes and environment interact.
- Live healthier lives.
