Unseen Pollution Patterns
Friday, April 11, 2025
To make sure the findings were on the right track, Spearman correlation was used. This statistical method confirmed that the base layer and surface water had a weak connection with leachate. However, there were a few exceptions. Phosphorus, sulfate, total suspended solids, and pH levels in surface water showed a strong link with leachate. This could be due to runoff, sediment transport, and other environmental factors, not just direct leachate seepage.
Seasonal changes also played a big role. Rainfall affected the volume of leachate and the concentration of pollutants. But here is the good news: the landfill's design helped reduce the environmental impact. The engineered barriers did their job, keeping the pollution in check.
Ball Mapper proved to be a game-changer. It showed hidden behaviors that traditional methods might miss. This makes it a powerful tool for monitoring and understanding environmental pollution. It is like having a superpower to see through the pollution haze.
