Valencia's residents took to the streets to protest the regional leader, Carlos Mazón, after last week's deadly floods. Over 200 people lost their lives, and many more are still missing. The protestors were angry because Mazón's administration didn't send flood alerts to people's phones until hours after the flooding started. Some protesters even clashed with police in front of the city hall. Mazón tried to calm the situation by saying that now is the time to clean up and help people. But the residents aren't satisfied. They feel that the response to the disaster was too slow and chaotic. Volunteers were the first ones to help in the worst-hit areas, and it took days for officials to send in enough police and soldiers. Mazón says he didn't have enough warnings from the central authorities. However, the Spanish weather agency had issued a red alert much earlier. People like Sara Sánchez Gurillo, who lost her brother-in-law in the floods, are demanding that Mazón and other leaders resign. They feel that the government didn't do enough to protect people.
