Viewers' Interest in VP Debate Drops

New York City, USAThursday, October 3, 2024
Recently, the vice-presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance took place, but it didn’t attract as many viewers as expected. Only 43.1 million people watched, which is a big drop from the 2020 debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence that had 67.1 million viewers. That was one of the most-watched vice-presidential debates ever!
Even though fewer people tuned in this time, some still found creative ways to watch, like going to drive-in movie theaters. It’s interesting to note that the viewership for this year's debate was similar to the 2004 one between Dick Cheney and John Edwards, which had about 43.6 million viewers. The presidential debates usually get more attention than the vice-presidential ones. For example, the Trump-Harris debate in 2020 had 67.1 million viewers, and the Trump-Biden one had 51.2 million. It’s clear that people are more interested in seeing who will be the next president than the vice president.
