Virginia Man Faces Charges After FBI Discovers Massive Pipe Bomb Stash

A man in Virginia is in trouble with the law after federal agents found a huge collection of homemade explosive devices at his home. This discovery is the largest seizure of ready-to-use explosives in FBI history. The man, named Brad Spafford, was taken into custody on December 17 at a farm near Smithfield, located about 29 miles northwest of Norfolk. He is accused of having an illegal short-barrel rifle. During the search of his home, FBI agents stumbled upon over 150 improvised explosive devices, known as pipe bombs. Some of these devices were marked as dangerous. Most of them were stored in a garage, along with tools and materials used for making the bombs. A few more were found in an unsecured backpack in the bedroom, with a disturbing message, "#nolivesmatter, " written on it.

This phrase is linked to a violent ideology that encourages mass killings and other criminal activities. Spafford lived with two young children at the house. He allegedly admitted to keeping a highly unstable explosive material in his freezer, which could explode due to slight changes in temperature. Photos from the court documents show a jar labeled "Dangerous" and "Do Not Touch" sitting next to food items in the freezer. Authorities also discovered that Spafford had used images of the president for target practice and showed support for political assassinations. He even sought qualifications for sniper-rifle shooting at a local range. The investigation started a year ago when a source informed authorities about Spafford's involvement with a homemade explosive that injured his hand. The source also mentioned that Spafford was collecting weapons and making homemade ammunition, producing about 50 rounds a day.
