Virginia Roads: Winter Weather Ahead, Stay Home!

If you're planning to drive in Virginia this weekend, think again! The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is warning drivers about some serious winter weather heading our way. They're saying it could be pretty dangerous, especially from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. Snow is expected to fall at a rate of an inch per hour, and different areas will see different amounts. For instance, places like Northern Virginia, Winchester, Harrisonburg, Fredericksburg, and parts of Central Virginia could get between 5 to 12 inches!

VDOT is also advising folks to avoid traveling to other parts of the state due to the mix of low temperatures, rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. This combo can make driving tough. VDOT crews will be out trying to clear the roads, but it'll take them a few days. That's why they're asking drivers to stay off the roads so the crews can do their job safely and effectively. VDOT has already started treating roads in western parts of the state and will be ready to plow and treat roads where the storm hits. Remember, road conditions are getting worse fast, so it's best to stay home if you can.
