Virginia's Voter Purge: Supreme Court Gives Green Light
Virginia, USAWednesday, October 30, 2024
The state says it's checking driver's license data against voter rolls to find non-citizens. But some groups say this is causing problems for legitimate voters. One woman, Nadra Wilson, told a news outlet she was born in the U. S. and has a passport, yet her name was removed.
A federal judge said Virginia can still remove names one by one, but not in a big sweep. She ordered the state to tell affected voters and local officials that their registrations are back.
In Alabama, a similar situation happened. A judge ordered the state to restore more than 3, 200 voters who were wrongly labeled as ineligible non-citizens.
