Virginia's Voter Rolls: A Pre-Election Scramble
Virginia, USAWednesday, October 30, 2024
The state's plan is to give the axe to people who checked a box saying they're not a citizen or left it blank on a DMV form. The problem is, some of these folks might have become U. S. citizens later on. The National Voter Registration Act usually stops states from doing this kind of cleaning so close to an election. But the court said, "Go ahead, Virginia. "
Last week, a federal judge told Virginia to stop and put back over 1, 600 voters who were taken off the rolls. But the Supreme Court said no way. The court's decision has some people thinking about what former President Trump said about non-citizen voting. Some folks worry this could be used to challenge election results if things don't go their way.
