New Jersey has been through a tough winter, with temperatures dropping to extreme lows. The good news is that relief is on the way.

Temperature Forecast

The National Weather Service predicts that temperatures will rise above normal soon. For example, around Teterboro Airport, the high is expected to reach 42 degrees on February 14, with sunny skies. This will be the first time since January 22 that temperatures have been this high in the area.

Looking ahead, the week of February 18 through February 24 is expected to be warmer than usual. The National Weather Service in New York says there is a 33-40% chance of above-normal temperatures in North Jersey. Normally, February temperatures in New Jersey average around 33.9 degrees. Before the warm-up, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 36 degrees on February 12 and 13.

Recent Cold Snap

The recent cold snap was intense. From February 6 to February 8, wind chills made it feel like 25 degrees below zero at times. On February 8, Bergenfield recorded its coldest temperature ever for that date, dropping to 2 degrees. This followed a particularly cold January, with an average temperature of 28 degrees3.7 degrees below the normal range from 1991 to 2020. January 2026 was the coldest in New Jersey since 2014 and the fifth coldest of the century.

However, the worst of the winter may be over as warmer days approach.
