Waukegan Schools' Budget: Money Matters More Than Taxes?
Waukegan, USAFriday, October 25, 2024
During the hearing, folks had a lot to say about how the money is spent. They weren't so happy about the salaries of some administrators, and they thought the classrooms could use some more supplies. Board member Adriana Gonzalez, who's a new homeowner herself, felt their pain. She said it's tough, but someone's got to make sure the schools get what they need.
Board member Christine Lensing wanted to know if the district could get some tax relief from the state. Polk said they've applied, but it's not worked out yet. The district gets most of its money from the state, and some from a federal COVID relief package. But, not every school district gets the same amount, and Waukegan is working with what it's got.
Polk said the district has to figure out what's most important and spend the money there. That might mean tough choices, but that's just how it goes. And hey, the details are all out there for anyone who wants to check them out.
So, what do you think? Is the school board making the right choices with the money? Or could they be doing something different?
