Weather Experts Face Dangerous Consequences for Debunking Hurricane Hoaxes

Recently, meteorologists have been dealing with something more frightening than hurricanes: death threats. These professionals are being targeted for exposing outlandish conspiracy theories claiming they and the government are behind the hurricanes battering the US. Katie Nickolaou, a Michigan-based meteorologist, shared a chilling message she received on social media. The threat called for harming meteorologists and their affiliates. "I can’t believe I just had to type that," Nickolaou wrote.

James Spann, a veteran Alabama meteorologist, is also facing such threats. He's been warned to "stop lying about the government controlling the weather or else." Spann, with 46 years of experience, says he's never seen anything like this. He works under immense stress, getting little sleep, and dealing with these threats is wearing him down. Matthew Cappucci, a Washington, DC-based meteorologist, has received hundreds of messages accusing him of using space lasers to create hurricanes. He says these false accusations are eroding public trust in meteorologists. The conspiracy theories gained traction after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene hinted that the series of violent storms were controlled events. Her post, viewed 43.5 million times, has fueled these dangerous beliefs.
