Weather Woes Ahead: Rain and Snow Expected for Thanksgiving
USAMonday, November 18, 2024
Further west, an atmospheric river event is anticipated to bring heavy rain and snow to Oregon and Northern California beginning on Monday. This weather system is predicted to last until Friday, bringing strong to extreme precipitation. Following this, the National Weather Service expects waves of low pressure to move into the Midwest and the Northeast, carrying snow into the weekend before Thanksgiving. Temperatures are likely to drop as an upper-level low pressure system develops over the Great Lakes and the Northeast. This will lead to cooler temperatures and potentially significant snowfall in the central Appalachians and higher terrain regions of the Northeast.
Forecasters predict that the second half of the week will see rain and snow in the Great Lakes and Northeast regions. A major winter storm could even develop and bring snow to the mid-Atlantic and southern New England regions. The next week, leading up to Thanksgiving, is expected to bring cooler temperatures, rain, and high-elevation snow to the East Coast. While it's too early to say how much this will disrupt travel plans, both air and retail businesses are anticipating high volumes of customers.
