Wendy's: Shutting Down Old Stores, Opening New Ones

Wendy's is planning to close 140 of its restaurants in the next few months. But don't worry, they're not disappearing—the fast food chain is opening an equal number of new locations. The restaurants being shut down are old and in areas that aren't doing well financially, according to Wendy's CEO, Kirk Tanner. He thinks these new locations will do better. Wendy's didn't say exactly where these closures will happen. They've been checking each restaurant to make sure they meet the company's standards for sales and customer experience.

Even with these closures, the total number of Wendy's restaurants in the US won't decrease. They're building around 250 to 300 new ones with fancy features like pick-up windows and updated kitchens. Other restaurants like Denny's and Shake Shack have also closed underperforming locations. Wendy's earnings weren't as good as expected this time, but they're happy with their SpongeBob SquarePants meal, which has been a hit with customers.
