Were Indian deportees treated poorly or is it standard procedure?

The Parliament in India faced interruption due to protests by political figures. This was over allegations of unfair and degrading treatment on a flight that brought 104 Indian deportees back from America. A flight chartered by a US military vehicle. The deported individuals, included in the flight, claimed they were restrained throughout the journey. One deportee told others that shackles and chains were unclipped upon their arrival at Amritsar airport, India. Some politicians inside the legislative chamber chanted demands for an official response. The President wasn't going to calm the agitated legislators. A political figure stated the deportees faced punishment for 40 hours. The discussion highlighted new national policies on deportation, mainly the restriction of movement with cuffed hands and feet.

The appliance of such constraints is not an unknown law by international rules and was done to enforce the safe return of deportees to their home country. This is the new trend. Though, India is investigating the reports and making sure procedures are followed. The catch was, when the deportees arrived in Amritsar airport, they were handed over to immigration authorities. The surprise was that some of the deportees were actually sent to India after 21 days in custody. This was not new. The trend of illegal immigrants from India entering the U. S. via the northern Canadian border has been rising, with those from Punjab and Gujarat states. The majority were people that had lived in the U. S. without proper documentation. Illegal immigration is in fact linked to various organized criminal activities.
