Western Washington Braces for More Rain and Possible Flooding

A Serious Weather Situation

Heavy rains are back in western Washington, bringing with them a flood watch for a significant portion of the region. This is not just a drizzle; it's a serious weather situation that could cause considerable trouble.

Flood Watch Issued

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the flood watch early Monday morning. It covers parts of 12 counties, including major cities like Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia. If you're in any of these areas, it's time to pay attention.

Skagit River on the Rise

The Skagit River is already causing issues. It has been high before, but it's expected to rise again. Last week, it flooded roads and neighborhoods, setting records and even prompting the National Guard to step in. At least nine people had to be rescued over two days in Skagit County.

Heavy Rainfall Expected

The NWS predicts between 2 to 6 inches of rain through Wednesday. That's a lot of water, and it could lead to urban and small stream flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage. Saturated soils also increase the risk of landslides and debris flows.
