What 2025 Might Bring for AI and Cryptocurrencies

As the year changes and a new president settles into the Oval Office, investors are notably curious about where they can expect higher-than-average returns. The wind is currently blowing in favor of favorable interest rate adjustments and incoming regulators in the new administration are predicted to take a more supportive stance toward markets, technology, and businesses. Venture capitalist Bradley Tusk, co-founder at Tusk Venture Partners, shared this forecast during the CNBC Financial Advisor Summit. "The environment is set to become more welcoming to new technologies, especially in sectors like fintech, healthcare tech, and energy, " Tusk stated. He highlighted two key areas that might see significant developments in the coming year: generative artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrencies.

Investment professionals have shown enthusiasm for companies employing generative AI, but Tusk suggests 2025 could mark a shift. "AI remains a field with great but unrealized potential, " he explained. Companies likely to increase their investments in this area will need to demonstrate real economic value beyond just promising ideas. On the regulatory front, Tusk emphasized the need for federal leadership in guiding generative AI. Meanwhile, the current stance of regulators like SEC Chair Gary Gensler toward cryptocurrencies has been critical, providing little clear guidance. The new administration might bring a different tone, with more openness to cryptocurrencies and practical regulations. "We should expect the officials at SEC, CFTC, and Treasury to be more friendly and reasonable towards crypto, " Tusk predicted.
