After a red carpet event, like the Golden Globes, celebrities' outfits gain a life of their own. Zendaya's saffron Louis Vuitton gown and Angelina Jolie's crystal chain McQueen dress are just a few examples. But what happens to these outfits after the cameras stop flashing? Many are stored away in specialized facilities, while others may be auctioned off or even given away. For instance, Lady Gaga's Valentino gown from the 2019 Golden Globes was allegedly left in her hotel room and found by a housekeeper.

Some outfits are preserved for future exhibitions, like Beyoncé's glittering gold Peter Dundas dress from the 2017 Grammys. However, not all outfits have a happy ending. Some don't survive the night, like Tyla's custom Balmain dress from the 2024 Met Gala, which was cut off to allow her to walk after needing help to ascend the museum steps.
