What’s Happening with Forests and Climate Change?
Rio de Janeiro, BrazilSunday, October 6, 2024
The ministers talked about how to deal with problems like climate change and the loss of biodiversity, which is when different types of plants and animals disappear. They also discussed how to pay for all this work – whether that comes from governments or private companies. Brazil’s environment minister, Marina Silva, said it's crucial to act fast because many places are already facing big issues like floods and wildfires.
In the end, they agreed on a few key points. One is that everyone needs to do more to fight climate change and adapt to its effects. They also reminded everyone that they support the Paris Agreement, which tries to keep global temperatures from rising too much. And they talked about some other big issues like oceans and plastic waste.
Next month, the heads of state will look at what their ministers have come up with and make some decisions. Brazil’s president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is really focused on making sure that developing countries get fair treatment.
