When AI companies face tough choices
Minab, IranMonday, June 15, 2026
Anthropic was built with good intentions. The founders named it after humans and made it a special kind of company that must balance profit with doing good. Their rules even include a board that can stop them if they stray from their mission.
But now, they’re fighting in court to stay in military contracts. They say losing these deals could cost them billions. It’s a tough business choice.
Other companies have faced similar pressures. Apple once refused the FBI’s request to weaken iPhone security. That decision made Apple one of the world’s most valuable companies. Maybe the real market isn’t in war tools but in trust.
Anthropic has a chance to prove they’re not just another tech company. They’ve already walked away from OpenAI over safety concerns and refused to sell user data. But the biggest test is still coming—whether to fully leave the military behind.
The choice isn’t just about money. It’s about what the company stands for.
