When Players Shape the Game: World of Warcraft's Floating Houses
World of Warcraft, a game that has stood the test of time for over two decades, recently introduced a highly anticipated housing feature. However, players quickly discovered a way to make their houses float using a hidden game glitch. Instead of fixing this exploit, Blizzard, the game's developer, decided to make it an official part of the game.
Player Creativity Shines
The response from players was overwhelmingly positive. They created unique and impressive floating houses, which caught the attention of the game's developers. Blizzard's principal designer, Jesse Kurlancheek, admitted that they initially planned to fix the floating houses but changed their minds after seeing the creative designs. Lead producer Kyle Hartline shared that the team was so impressed by the player's creations that they decided to keep the feature.
Challenges with Floating Houses
However, there are some issues with floating houses. The undersides of the houses were not meant to be seen and are not detailed. Players might need to hide this part or find a way to enter their houses, as the camera might not reach the door. Blizzard suggests building ramps or using mounts to enter floating houses.
A Trend in Gaming History
This is not the first time a game's unintended feature became popular. Games like Street Fighter II and Doom have features that were not originally planned but are now beloved by players. Who knows, maybe one day, even the infamous Diablo III gold duplication glitch could become an official feature.
