In 2024, the job market might see a shake-up with Donald Trump's second term. Healthcare has been leading job growth, adding nearly a million jobs in both 2023 and 2024. This jump is partly due to Covid-related spending and an aging population. The government sector, meanwhile, created about 440, 000 jobs in 2024, down from 709, 000 in 2023. Elise Gould, an economist at the Economic Policy Institute, explained that the healthcare workforce includes a significant number of immigrants, who make up almost 18% of the sector.

If Trump's administration pursues mass deportations, it could lead to worker shortages, driving up wages and causing economic problems. Most government job growth in the past two years has happened at the state level, with local and federal governments growing at a slower pace.
