Which Factors Do Urban Poor Consider When Choosing Primary Healthcare Providers?

In bustling cities of low- and middle-income countries, the urban poor population is growing. This means the need for efficient primary healthcare services is more crucial than ever. To ensure these services are accessible and affordable, it's vital to understand what factors urban dwellers consider when picking a healthcare provider. This systematic review aims to gather existing evidence from studies in these countries, as classified by the World Bank. Researchers will search through several electronic databases, including Pubmed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus, from their earliest records up to March 30, 2024. They'll also look into manual searches of citations and grey literature.

Two researchers will independently evaluate the studies and resolve any disagreements with the help of a third reviewer if needed. The quality of the studies will be assessed using specific tools like the Conjoint Analysis studies checklist and the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Data will be extracted and organized into an Excel spreadsheet, which will be refined throughout the review process. The goal is to identify and analyze different types of preference attributes that urban dwellers look for in their healthcare providers. The review will follow the PRISMA guidelines for reporting.
