Who Should Be Worried: Walz or Vance?

Vance, the Republican nominee, who needs to watch his step. Vance isn't popular with voters and has a history of controversial statements. Walz, on the other hand, is well-liked and experienced in debates. If Vance doesn’t perform well tonight, he might get blamed if Trump loses the election. Even if Trump wins, Vance could still be seen as a liability. He needs a strong performance to save his political future. But Walz has no big ambitions after this race—he just wants to avoid losing.

Vance was a good debater in his Ohio Senate campaign, but his overall campaign wasn’t impressive. He won by only 5%, which is low for a Republican in Ohio. If he messes up tonight, it could confirm voters' bad impression of him. Trump might even regret choosing Vance as his running mate. Walz has debated many times before and knows what he's doing. But if he makes a mistake, Vance could take advantage, just like Senator Bentsen did with Dan Quayle in 1988. Quayle made a poor first impression and became a joke after losing the election. He had no future in politics. Vance needs to do well tonight to prove he’s a worthy successor to Trumpism. If he does poorly, he might become just a footnote in history, even if his party wins. Walz only needs to not lose. This debate is crucial for Vance's future.
