Why Are We Not Using Effective Schizophrenia Treatments?

Schizophrenia, a challenging and expensive condition, often starts in youth and can become a lifelong struggle if not managed well. It causes immense distress and disability for both patients and their families, and it strains society's resources. Research has uncovered a lot about the underlying causes and progression of schizophrenia. We've also developed ways to control symptoms and limit the long-term damage. But, surprisingly, these strategies aren't widely used. Are we missing out because we don't believe they work, or are we just not ready to make the needed changes?

To find answers, we looked at studies about schizophrenia's history, causes, and treatment options. These treatments can ease symptoms, prevent relapses, and maybe even change the course of the illness. While we wait for more advancements, we should use what we already have and tackle the obstacles that keep us from giving patients the best care possible.
