Why Aren't Taylor Sheridan's Shows Winning Awards?
Billy Bob Thornton believes that Taylor Sheridan's shows are often misunderstood and that this is why they don't get the recognition they deserve.
The Misconception
Thornton, who stars in Sheridan's upcoming show "Landman," thinks that some people assume Sheridan is a right-wing filmmaker. However, Thornton argues that Sheridan's work is not about pushing a political agenda but rather about portraying life in different worlds.
Sheridan's Hit Shows
Sheridan has created some of the most popular shows on TV, including:
- "Yellowstone"
- "1883"
- "1923"
Despite their massive success, these shows rarely get awards recognition. For example, "Yellowstone" only received one Emmy nomination in 2021, even though it has been on for five seasons.
What "Landman" is Really About
Thornton explains that "Landman," which focuses on the oil business, doesn't push a political agenda. Instead, it shows what life is like for people in that industry. Thornton believes this is why some people have the wrong idea about the show.
Awards vs. Sports
Thornton also compared Hollywood awards to sports, saying that in sports, there's a clear winner. But in acting, it's not so simple. He mentioned that there are so many great actors out there, making it hard to determine who is the best. Thornton also said that winning awards isn't everything and that he doesn't let it bother him anymore.
Sheridan's Response
Sheridan has also spoken out about the misconceptions surrounding his shows. He said that "Yellowstone" is often called a "conservative show" or a "Republican show," but that's not accurate. Sheridan explained that his show tackles important issues like:
- Treatment of Native Americans
- Corporate greed
- Gentrification
