Why Banning Books Hurts More Than Helps
USAMonday, October 7, 2024
Recent bans are targeting books about marginalized groups, like LGBTQ+ and BIPOC characters. These bans are not about care or love. They're about erasing important progress. When books are banned, libraries might not order them, and schools might cancel author visits. This hurts sales and support for authors.
We need to think about who these bans really help. They might not be helping kids at all. In fact, they might be hurting us all in the long run. Books should be celebrated, not banned.
